June 2004
Work has begun on the project. A number of employer
and training organisations have been contacted and have agreed to support
this project. Additionally other enterprises and related research organisations
are liaising with this project and providing additional data.
The ST2 project is able to contribute and to draw from
similar research projects. The issues relating to senior, exisiting and
mature-aged workers is an extremely important area for our ageing workforce.
The National Steering Group will be meeting at the end
of June to finalise the methodology as well as provide a collective focus
into the research into this area.
May 2004
The approval for the second report into shared technology
was given this month and progress is proceeding. A new steering committee
has been formed and will meet at the end of June, 2004.
October 2003 to April 2004
The Shared Technology report was received warmly by
an number of organisations throughout Austraia. Presentations on the findings
were made to the EE-Oz National Conference and the Victorian Specialist
Centres Forum.
September 2003
The Shared Technology report has been used by ANTA as a lead-in project
for the National Industry Skills Forum held on 30 September, 2003. Angus
M. Robinson of the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers'
Association presented an overview of the findings of the report as well
as providing further elaboration. The participants at the Forum were asked
two questions.
1. What are the challenges in developing skills across industries that are sharing technology but using different work models?
2. How can industry and vocational education and training agencies better collaborate so that skills keep pace with new and shared technology.
August 2003
The Shared Technology report has had a print run this month of 500 copies. These copies are
being distributed by EE-Oz Training Standards to ANTA, registered training organisations and other
organisations and enterprises. If you wish to receive a copy, please contact http://www.ee-oz.com.au for
your copy.
On 21 August, Andrew Lindhjem attended ANTA's Innovation Roundtable: Strategy 6 in Melbourne.
Topics discussed at this meeting included Ratio's discussion paper "A vision of an innovative Australian VET System" and
how VET can support innovation in Australian Industry. Please watch ANTA's web site for more information. www.anta.gov.au
July 2003
The final drafts of the Shared Technology Project have been provided to the Australian National Training Authority. Work is underway through EE-Oz Training Standards to print a limited number of hard copies. Readers are encouraged to download chapters from the Publications page. At this stage each chapter is presented as a single .pdf but the complete report will be available as a .pdf in the near future. Progress for the Months of May and June 2003
The final chapters have been prepared and have been peer reviewed by a number of individuals. The draft versions were open for comment by all those who participated in the interviews. The author would like to thank all of those who did provide their thoughts and comments. A presentation was made to the Australian National Training Authority at the beginning of June.
Progress for the Month of April 2003
During this month the chapters relating to the technologies reviewed have been prepared. These chapters are available for review by individuals and groups and comments are welcomed regarding the content. As the project's deadline is June 15, the remain chapters will be prepared in May. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the web site over the next few weeks to obtain copies of the remaining chapters.
Progress for the Month of March 2003
During this month the preparation of the chapters began. These draft chapters
will be available from 31 March for those who wish to make a comment.
As other chapters are prepared, advice will be sent to those who have
contributed. The full set of chapters is expected to be available by the
end of April. If you would like to make further comment, please contact
Andrew Lindhjem. Full details are in the "Contacts" section
of this web page.
Progress for the Month of February 2003
This month saw a concerted effort at gathering primary data through personal
interviews. The IEU-ITC employed Hans Setiawan who is a fourth-year electrical
engineering student at Curtin University. Hans was able to provide a technical
focus on some of the issues at hand. Hans worked on renewable energy and
telecommunications. During this period the total number of interviewed
industry representatives rose to 97.
Progress for the Month of January 2003
This month the Shared Technology project has continued with its research
contacting industry representatives and gathering data on the emerging
technologies. In order to further this efforts, Hans Setiawan has joined
the project as a Research Assistant. In the last week of the month a series
of meetings have been held with the National Steering Group to provide
them with information on the project. A review of the project so far is
available in our Publications Page.
Progress for the Month of December 2002
More than thirty face-to-face interviews have been conducted and many
research reports collected that have provided general direction for the
project. Briefly there appears to be five major areas of shared technology
and these are networking, wireless communications, device processing,
distributed generation, enabling technologies and the human/technology
interface. For a more detailed overview, go to our report December_2002_Shared_Technology_Summary.pdf.
